GRIVAS: Former Cypriot resistance leader General Georgios Grivas, aka Digenis, took a more moderate line in statements yesterday referring to his imminent meeting with Cypriot Archbishop Makarios. He said he had invited the archbishop for talks to settle their differences, if these indeed existed, and to meet in a spirit of mutual understanding. He said his dream was to see Cyprus as a free, independent and sovereign state. YUGOSLAVIA-ALBANIA: Belgrade – During a reception in the Albanian capital of Tirana to celebrate the 10th anniversary of communist rule in China, the Yugoslav charge d’affaires walked out in protest at a strongly worded speech attacking Yugoslavia by Deputy Prime Minister of Albania Abdyl Kellezi. KATINA PAXINOU: According to a report from New York, Greek actress Katina Paxinou is beginning rehearsals today for a production of Bertolt Brecht’s «Mother Courage» at a Broadway theater. Paxinou is to play the leading role. MARIKA PALESTI: The soprano Marika Palesti is to perform a program of Greek and foreign songs at the Ideal Theater on October 23. Tickets are on sale for 50 and 100 drachmas, available at the theater box office.
