STRIKE IN POLAND: Warsaw, 26 – According to well-informed sources, last Friday the 5,000 workers at a factory in Poznan,where train carriages are repaired, stopped work in protest at a reduction in pay. About 30 people were immediately sacked and the next day work resumed as normal. Strikes are legal in Poland but only when all other attempts at settlement have been exhausted. In reality, however, they are considered to be a prohibited act. ANNA SYNODINOU: The actress Anna Synodinou has signed another three-year contract with the National Theater. TAKIS MOUZENIDIS: The distinguished director Takis Mouzenidis is now a member of the National Theater. He has been given the task of staging Euripides’ play «Madness of Heracles.» RODOPOULOS IN USA: Washington, 25 – The Speaker of the Greek Parliament, Constantine Rodopoulos, accompanied by Greece’s Ambassador in Washington Alexis Liatis, met this morning with US Vice President Richard Nixon for a quarter-hour meeting. Nixon recalled his trip to Greece in 1947 as a member of a congressional committee during the Greek Civil War, when he visited a number of border areas.
