Ministers who must be replaced

It is time to get serious for a number of the Socialist administration’s senior officials and PASOK party cadres who apparently have not yet grasped the magnitude of the country’s fiscal crisis. Some of PASOK’s appointed ministers have done nothing to improve the lot of their ministries. And what’s worse, a number of them have even sought to disguise the extensive waste and poor budget choices in their areas of responsibility. Speaking at a Cabinet meeting yesterday, the government’s deputy prime minister, the inimitable Theodoros Pangalos, revealed the true extent of the phenomenon and did not hesitate to lambast the mistakes made by specific ministers. Unless the situation is systematically remedied, the prime minister will have no excuse: George Papandreou will have to replace these profligate ministers without further delay. Greece cannot afford to have such wrong, irresponsible people in such important posts at such a crucial time.
