PM must put talk to rest

Speculation over a likely Cabinet reshuffle has been occupying the minds and sapping the energy of too many government officials long enough, and Prime Minister George Papandreou needs to make up his mind and put a stop to it. Yet, there is one reasonable question that remains to be answered: What is the point behind the premier’s statement that his intention is for ministers and deputies to be nominated for the upcoming elections? On the one hand, if the officials he has in mind are capable enough to be seen as serious contendors, isn’t it shame to allow them to leave their ministerial posts just as they are beginning to gain some experience? On the other hand, if they have been unsuccessful in their posts so far, isn’t it ludicrous to even suggest that they can deal with the challenges that lie ahead in the country’s local administration?
