You can’t fight fire with fire

Laws mean little in this country it seems, as very few respect them because even fewer uphold the rules when breaking them appears to carry no real penalties. From motorcycles happily cruising down sidewalks to violent groups hurling petrol bombs at public property, it is obvious that we have reached this mess because a part of society couldn’t care less for laws and the state, in turn, cannot impose them. Some explain away such blatant disregard for the law as their reaction to the state giving in to powerful lobbies or wasting public money. But you can’t fight fire with fire and if laws continue to be flouted by the state and the public Greece will soon sink into anarchy and violence. For this not to happen, the state needs to start punishing those who break they law, be they politicians, public figures and powerful business people.
