PAPAGOS: Field Marshal (Alexandros) Papagos’s tour of Greece is continuing most successfully. Everywhere the leader of the Greek Rally party goes, he is enthusiastically welcomed by the people who, disappointed by recent governments, see reform in his person. MARKEZINIS: Mr Spyros Markezinis, a prominent member of the Greek Rally party, spoke on Athens radio yesterday evening, saying, «(…) With Alexandros Papagos, democracy will be stabilized, Greece’s freedom will be consolidated and the unity of the nation will become a reality (…).» PENDELI: A beautiful relief depicting nymphs and the gods Pan, Dionysos and Hermes has been found in one of the many quarries on Mt Pendeli, just above Davelis’s Cave. MAURIAC: London, 6 – According to a report from Stockholm, this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature is to be awarded to the French writer and journalist Francois Mauriac. NEW BOOKS: «The Socialist System,» by Wilfred Pareto, translated and introduced by Yiannis S. Agapitos, Athens 1952. IOANNIS ANDRIANOPOULOS: Yesterday morning, Ioannis Andrianopoulos, the elder brother of Piraeus Mayor G. Andrianopoulos, passed away. Ioannis Andrianopoulos was one of the best players for the Olympiakos soccer team as well as the national team, on which he was Greece’s strongest forward.
