Acting naturally…

It’s November, not March, so we have plenty of time to search for nice things to say about women before the arrival of the one day we dedicate to this huge «minority.» Until then, nothing will stop us men from acting according to our nature – exchanging sexist jokes, following in the footsteps of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers as, we will probably ensure, our children follow in ours. There are currently no advertisements on radio, television or in much of the trivializing print press that do not present women as simple dupes, their only redeeming feature being their good looks – which themselves are graded according to the criteria which reign in the kingdom of male fantasy. «She» knows nothing about anything except maybe how to gossip on the mobile phone – even though she certainly wouldn’t know how to benefit from the best deal on the market. Similarly, she knows nothing about different makes of car (apart from those that «rightfully» belong to men; she is only along for the ride). She is also ignorant about the stock exchange, the euro, politics of course, and even street markets… In recent local government elections, women were once again obliged to play in promotional films that celebrated their «natural» ignorance and tendency to see everything as a flirtatious scenario where they represent the prize to be won. These valuations make up the amniotic fluid which baptizes and nourishes us all. Except on March 8 of course…
