All-Star clashes soccer’s new draw

Taking its cue from basketball’s annual end-of-season all-star game, the Greek soccer federation has decided to launch its own version to help promote and showcase the sport in Greece. Proceeds will go to charity, the organizers said. The federation, EPO, with support from mobile telephone company Telestet, has set May 26 as the date for the country’s first all-star soccer game. The Telestet All-Star Game, as it has been dubbed, will divide local and foreign players competing in Greece. The team lineups and their coaches will be based on votes cast by fans. Also, the two coaches will each be entitled to select an additional five players of their choice. Voters, each entitled to propose two players for each playing position, as well as two coaches, may submit their choices in a variety of ways. Telestet mobile phone owners can deliver preferences in SMS form by dialing 2003, or by calling 901.160.0000. Votes can also be cast over the Internet on three websites (www.telestet.gr / www.epo.gr / www.fairplay.gr) or by filling out applications at Telestet outlets. Voting ends on May 9.
