Panionios holds 10-man Olympiakos
Panionios put an end to Olympiakos’s winning streak by drawing 1-1 with the runaway leader of soccer’s Super League on February 27, but the Reds have maintained their 10-point lead over Panathinaikos at the top.
Olympiakos led through Kevin Mirallas at half-time, but Panionios equalized via Vaclav Sverkos. Former Liverpool star Albert Riera left Olympiakos with 10 men, seeing a red card 17 minutes from time for hitting Yiannis Kontoes.
Panathinaikos drew 1-1 at home with Atromitos on February 26, with Sidney Govou’s first league goal for the Greens, but more attention was paid to the fans, who staged a relatively peaceful rally before and during the match to protest referee decisions and the violence against Panathinaikos players at the derby with Olympiakos a week earlier.
AEK returned to winning with a 3-2 victory at Ergotelis, while Kavala upset PAOK with a 2-0 score at Thessaloniki and leaped to fourth. It is level on points with Olympiakos Volou, who scored three times in the first half to beat Kerkyra 3-1 on Corfu.
Struggling Larissa salvaged a point with an equalizer against Aris at home (2-2) deep into injury time. Panserraikos could not even do that, as it missed a penalty to lose 1-0 at home to Asteras Tripolis, another team threatened with relegation.
Xanthi thought it had beaten Iraklis at Thessaloniki but the host equalized with literally the last kick of the game.
