Panionios makes LEN Trophy final

Panionios qualified to the final of Europe’s LEN Trophy, beating Hungary’s Honved in the semifinal on March 9.

The Nea Smyrni club reached its second final in the last three years in Europe?s second-tier club competition by overturning the three-goal advantage the Hungarians had from the first leg.

Honved had won 12-9 in Budapest two weeks earlier, but the Greeks managed to turn things around, winning 11-6 at home for a two-goal aggregate victory.

Panionios will now face Italy’s Savona in the two-leg final on April 13 and 27, with the first leg scheduled to take place at Nea Smyrni.
