Gianniotis wins open water World Cup

Spyros Gianniotis triumphed in the last round of the open water World Cup, in Shanghai, to finish first in the standings at the 10 kilometers.

The Greek swimmer won four out of six rounds to claim the World Cup on Saturday and end the season in the best possible way.

“I am perfectly satisfied with all the races. I have met my target which was to clinch the top spot in the World Cup. Now I’ll get some rest, get some time for myself to fill my batteries ahead of next year that includes the World Championship in Barcelona,» said Gianniotis, who was fourth in the London Olympics.

His coach, Nikos Gemelos, was also satisfied: «We may have not got the Olympic medal, but at least the year has ended in glory.”
