Panionios puts 100 past PAOK, Nea Kifissia excels

Panionios has taken the upper hand in the battle for third in the A1 division after beating PAOK on Saturday in a weekend that was dominated by significant away wins.

The Nea Snyrni club defeated PAOK 100-91 in a very entertaining game in Thessaloniki between the country’s two Eurocup representatives. Led by Errick Mc Collum who scored 26 points, Panionios triumphed at the PAOK Sports Arena and is now two points ahead of PAOK that lies in fourth.

Favorites Panathinaikos and Olympiakos were not really troubled by their opponents, with the Greens seeing off Kolossos 73-58 on Rhodes on Monday, and Olympiakos dismantling visiting Trikala 84-45 on Saturday.

Nea Kifissia produced yet another upset, beating AGO Rethymnou 55-54 on Crete, boosted by the arrival to the club of former Greece captain Michalis Kakiouzis. He scored six points and collected four rebounds in 19 minutes in his first game with the promoted team.

KAO Dramas performed a small miracle in coming from 12 points down to beat Apollon 64-62 at Patra and climb to the fifth spot, a quite remarkable feat for the Macedonian team.

Panelefsiniakos proved once again it is particularly hard to beat at home, defeating Aris 72-60, while Ikaros got some lease of life beating fellow struggling Ilisiakos 72-71 at Halkida in the battle between the two bottom clubs.
