Sorry Olympiakos hammered at Armani Milano

Olympiakos confirmed it is undergoing a major crisis when it suffered a humiliating defeat to one of the weakest clubs in its Euroleague group, Armani Milano. The Reds went down 81-51 on Thursday for their first loss in the competition this season.

The European champion can find no excuse in the absence of two of its American players, Acie Law and Brent Petway who have now been temporarily replaced, as a 30-point loss at Milan was simply inexcusable.

The Reds actually started the game very well, leading 21-16 after the first period, but it all went wrong for the Greeks after that. Their attack had huge confidence problems and their defense lagged in energy, as has been the case in all games that Olympiakos has played in the last three weeks.

The first half ended with the Italians leading by seven (39-32), while the second half was a real nightmare for Olympiakos, with a partial score of 42-19, as the Reds only just managed to reach up to 51 points.

The result may not have too big a bearing on the future of Olympiakos in the group, that will have another 12 games, but it shows clearly that coach Giorgos Bartzokas has got his hands full for the coming days.

On Friday he will be welcoming his latest signing, Jamario Moon, who has been drafted in to replace injured Brent Petway.

Panionios also suffered a painful defeat this week as on Wednesday it went down 89-75 in Athens to Nizhny Novgorod in its first game in the second group stage of the Eurocup.
