Kenteris in Greece’s air force

Better known for his ability to fly at ground level, 200-meter sprinter Costas Kenteris, the reigning Olympic and world champion, who has been rewarded with a Flying Officer ranking in Greece’s air force for his achievement, co-piloted an F-16 flight yesterday. It was his first-ever flight in the pilot’s seat, ahead of today’s air force celebrations for Archangel Michael, the force’s guardian angel. Competing in the women’s 63-kilogram category, the young athlete lived up to her promise to win gold with a 125-kilogram lift in the clean-and-jerk, silver in the snatch (102.5 kg), and another silver for overall performance (227.5 kg).
