Tsatoumas just misses out on a Euro medal

Louis Tsatoumas narrowly missed out on a medal at the European Indoor Championships in Prague on Friday, as despite faring below his usual standard he was third until up to the last few jumps.

However his best effort at 7.98 meters was not enough for a bronze medal in the end as the Greek champion ended up fourth, behind three athletes who registered personal best performances, with winner Michel Torneus of Sweden making a new national record.

Also on Friday Costas Douvalidis finished sixth in the final of the 60 meters hurdles clocking 7.64 seconds.

Three Greek jumpers have made it to the pole vault finals, as Costas Filippidis cleared 5.70 meters in the men’s qualifier and will be among the favorites in Saturday’s final, while Katerina Stefanidi and Nicole Kyriacopoulou advanced to the women’s final on Sunday after going over 4.60 meters.

The championships conclude on Sunday.
