Seventeen-year-old Zoe Dimoschaki took fifth place in the 400-meter freestyle at the European short-course swimming championships in Antwerp over the weekend. Dimoschaki established a Greek record of 4 minutes, 7.39 seconds. In the same final, Marianna Lyberta came eighth in 4 minutes, 9.65 seconds. Dimoschaki also broke the national 200-meter record in 2 minutes, 0.98 seconds, even though she failed to make the final. In all, three Greek swimmers and the women’s 4×50-meter freestyle relay team advanced to event finals. Among the men, Spyros Yianniotis did best, with fifth place in the 400-meter freestyle, in 3 minutes, 45.46 seconds and sixth place in the 1,500-meter freestyle, with 14 minutes 57.51 seconds. Our athletes are not performing leaps because they may get injured. Their fingers are frozen, Fateeva said.
