Olympiakos ousts Iraklis

League front runner Olympiakos made it through to the Greek Cup’s quarterfinals last night with a 2-0 win at home over Thessaloniki club Iraklis. Olympiakos, which went down 1-0 in Thessaloniki’s first leg, got the score it needed with a free kick after 83 minutes by Brazilian striker Rivaldo. He came on as a substitute for the second half. Also yesterday, second-division side Larissa advanced despite going down 1-0 away to Halkidona after an injury-time goal. Larissa had won the first leg 3-1. In Thessaloniki, a scoreless draw at home against OFI was enough for Appollon Kalamaria to get through to the quarterfinals. They had drawn 1-1 in Crete. Without doubt the third round’s highlight, first-division big guns Panathinaikos and AEK, second and third in the standings respectively, meet for the return leg tonight. The Athens rivals drew 1-1 in the first leg with AEK as the home team.
