Brazil’s Conceicao set to transfer to Panathinaikos

Brazilian international defensive midfielder Flavio Conceicao has agreed to transfer to Panathinaikos, it was announced yesterday. The 31-year-old, who joins the Athens club from Turkey’s Galatasaray, will sign a three-year deal, Panathinaikos confirmed yesterday evening. Conceicao, a Champions League winner in 2002 with Real Madrid, is expected in Athens this week to sign a contract which will bring him a reported 1.5 million euros a year. Galatasaray will be paid 500,000 euros to release him, reports said. Conceicao, who has scored four times in his 47 internationals, has also played for Deportivo La Coruna, Borussia Dortmund, and Palmeiras, with whom he won the 1994 Brazilian title. He scored twice in 27 matches last season for Galatasaray. Conceicao is the second signing in as many days by Panathinaikos, who also secured Cameroon international goalie Pierre Owono Ebede. Panathinaikos, runner-up in last season’s domestic competition, will play in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.
