Aris forward Angelos Charisteas signed a four-year contract…

Aris forward Angelos Charisteas (c) yesterday signed a four-year contract with German club Werder Bremen. Aris will get 3.1 million euros for the player’s transfer, the minimum amount stipulated in Charisteas’s contract with Aris. The player, shown here with Werder manager Klaus Allofs (l) and coach Thomas Schaaf, will receive an undisclosed amount when he joins the German team in the summer. Aris, who had been discussing Charisteas’s transfer to French club Lens for 4.5 million euros, was taken completely by surprise. The Greek club now claims it will not recognize the transfer and threatens to suspend Charisteas.
