Arsenal told to wait for Greek star

LONDON (AFP) – Arsenal target Georgios Samaras will be staying at Heerenveen until the end of the season, the Dutch club’s manager said yesterday. The Highbury outfit have been tracking the Greek striker for some time but Heerenveen manager Joop Heida revealed he is under no pressure to sell the 20-year-old. «Arsenal are not the only club interested in Georgios,» he told the BBC. «He will not be going in January. If he goes it will be at the end of the season. In the summer we can look and see what is best for him.» Samaras helped the club to the last 32 of the UEFA Cup and to fifth in the Dutch league at the halfway point this season. But they have already sold top scorer Klaas Jan Huntelaar to Ajax and Heida has insisted that no more players will be leaving in January. The 6-feet 3-inches Samaras is under contract until 2008 but Arsenal are said to be leading the way to sign him for a reported fee of 5.6 million euros. However, Heida will be expecting much more to part company with the Greek. «Everybody is for sale but that is not enough for Georgios Samaras. I think it would be much more,» he said.
