Schinias to become training center for world’s rowers

In a year’s time, the Schinias rowing facility will become one of the three international training centers of the International Rowing Federation (FISA), the federation and Greek authorities agreed yesterday. FISA President Denis Oswald and Olympic Properties Chairman Christos Hadjiemmanouil agreed to appoint a group of experts that will carry out a financial viability study. The proposal to add Schinias to the existing training centers in Munich and Seville will be presented at FISA’s next congress in Limassol, Cyprus, in November. The training center will open in Autumn 2007. Oswald yesterday toured Schinias, a venue he knows well from his days as member (1997-2001) and president (2001-2004) of the International Olympic Committee’s Coordination Commission, overseeing preparations for the Athens Olympics. He now heads the Coordination Commission for the 2012 London Olympics.
