Baghdatis through to last 16 at Wimbledon

Cyprus’s Marcos Baghdatis, a semifinalist at Wimbledon last year, advanced to the Grand Slam tournament’s fourth round with a sturdy straight-sets victory yesterday against Argentine David Nalbandian, a former finalist. Baghdatis, who is the world’s No 16 and 10th seed at Wimbledon, stormed to his win over Nalbandian, ranked 25 in the world, with an impressive 6-2, 7-5, 6-0 score. The Cypriot will face either Nikolay Davydenko or France’s Gael Montfils for a place in the quarterfinals. Much of yesterday’s schedule of play was affected by persistent rainfall.
