Lecce acquires Papadopoulos

Serie A side Lecce announced yesterday the acquisition of former Panathinaikos striker Dimitris Papadopoulos. The 27-year-old soccer player will join the Italian club as of January. He was a free agent as of last month after Panathinaikos terminated his contract. He had been informed over the summer that he was not part of the coach’s plans. He was a member of the victorious Euro 2004 team and has also played in England with Burnley. He had also been courted by Olympiakos and AEK, but his desire to move abroad was paramount. Lecce currently lies 12th in the Italian league with 12 points from 11 games.
