Spectacular hoops games

The weekend in basketball was dominated by balanced games and spectacular highlights that have given fans plenty to remember. Panathinaikos found it tough going against PAOK and needed to dig deep to achieve the 107-97 victory. PAOK, meanwhile, has been rocked by the sudden resignation of its president, Dimitris Drosos, due to health reasons. Olympiakos was trailing at Trikala after the first period, but staged a fantastic performance to come back and win 111-77. Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are level at the top. Alone in third is Aris, who beat Larissa 85-83 in a thrilling game, as Panellinios suffered its third loss this season, going down 102-80 at Maroussi. AEK led throughout the game, but Kavala fought back in the end and nearly snatched the win in Athens. AEK eventually won 78-75 in a game played behind closed doors. In contrast, the fightback of Kolossos in Rhodes bore fruit as it reversed Olympia Larissa’s lead to win 68-65. The match between Panionios and Aigaleo yesterday was marred by clashes between supporters in the stands, including 40-50 fans of the visitors. Up to 100 fans who were sitting in the stands reserved for home supporters attacked several police officers and then the Aigaleo fans before departing from the stadium with the first half still in progress. They did not return. Panionios eventually downed Aigaleo 93-77 and is set to host Kavala tomorrow for a league game postponed since last October.
