Maroussi provided the shock of the week in domestic basketball with its triumphant win over champion Panathinaikos on Saturday. The club from northern Athens, which had taken its game six days earlier with Olympiakos down to the wire to lose by just one point, defeated Panathinaikos 80-70 at home. This was the second loss of the season for the Greens, who have tumbled from the top of the table in spectacular fashion. Olympiakos has taken a one-point lead at the top after thrashing Aegaleo 106-61 on Sunday. It now has the upper hand for the top of the regular season, given it will also host Panathinaikos in Piraeus later in the season. In the other games: Kavala upset Larissa, winning 80-72 away, as did Olympia Larissa who dismissed Trikala 71-63 on the road. Panionios beat visiting PAOK 86-78, Kolossos thrashed AEK 86-68 in Rhodes and Panellinios staked a claim for the third spot with a convincing 76-55 victory in Kypseli on Saturday. The league continues tomorrow with a midweek round of games.
