Greek women’s volleyball cup…

Panathinaikos won the Greek women’s volleyball cup last weekend on Syros, to claim its 500th trophy in all sports over its 101-year history, a national record. The Greens defeated Iraklis Thessalonikis 3-0 in Saturday’s final, after claiming the scalp of eternal rival Olympiakos by the same score in Friday’s semifinal. This was the fourth women’s cup for league leader Panathinaikos, equaling the record set by Vrilissia. Fortunately, there were no riots reported in the Final-Four – always a worry given the history of games between the two rivals – thanks to careful planning by the federation and the police, who gave no tickets to fan clubs.
