Flu cloud hangs over Greek visit to Ukraine

Swine flu worries have hit the national soccer team, due to the spread of the disease in Ukraine, where Greece is set to play the return leg of its playoff for a spot in the June-July 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The game on November 18 in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, could be staged behind closed doors or with fans attending in the stands but wearing protective masks. There is also an outside chance of the game being moved to a later date or to another country. As far as the first leg on November 14 is concerned, the Hellenic Football Federation announced yesterday that tickets for the match at the Olympic Stadium of Athens went on sale Tuesday at the Irini electric railway station near the ground, the Karaiskaki Stadium in Piraeus and Korai Square in central Athens and cost 10, 20 or 30 euros. In a separate development, it was revealed yesterday that the national team of Paraguay has asked Panathinaikos to allow it to hold its World Cup preparations from mid-May at the Greek club’s training center at Paiania, eastern Attica.
