Ikaros gets new Panionios win
Ikaros Kallitheas scored its second win within just a few weeks over Panionios last night, closing the second round of the basketball league with a 61-56 home triumph. As the recently promoted team’s first victory over Panionios had resulted in the elimination of the neighboring side from the cup, it is clear luck had nothing to do with yesterday’s result. Also yesterday, coach Costas Pilafidis of another newly promoted side, Iraklis, tendered his resignation following a defeat to PAOK in the Thessaloniki derby late on Sunday. The 53-year-old used the protests by Iraklis fans against him after the game as justification for his decision. The club’s board was last night trying to change the coach’s mind, according to reports from Greece’s second-largest city.
