Platanias dumps PAO out of Cup

Panathinaikos continued its season of misery with elimination from the Greek Cup to Super League new boys Platanias Hanion on Wednesday, while PAOK thrashed Kallithea and joined PAS Giannina and Asteras Tripolis in the quarterfinals.

Platanias had lost 2-1 in Athens in the first leg of its fourth-round tie with Panathinaikos, but a goal four minutes from time at Hania saw it score a famous upset as the 1-0 win secured it a spot in the last eight of the competition and one of the biggest scalps in Greek soccer.

PAOK had lost 2-0 at second-division Kallithea, but in the return leg at Thessaloniki it scored five times in the first half to win 6-0 against a 10-man visiting side on Thursday. The game saw the first goal for Costas Katsouranis in a PAOK shirt.

Back in Athens, PAS Giannina eased past third-division Fostiras winning 3-2 on Thursday and advanced 5-2 on aggregate.

Finally, Asteras Tripolis added a 2-0 home win on Wednesday to the 1-1 draw it had snatched at second-tier Olympiakos Volou to earn a ticket to the quarterfinals.

The other four second-leg games for the fourth round will take place next week.
