Students charged for attacking migrants in Larissa

Eight students were charged on Friday with causing grievous bodily harm after they took part in an attack on a Pakistani grocery store in Larissa, central Greece, late on Thursday. Seven of the eight suspects are aged between 16 and 17. The oldest of the group is 23, authorities said.

They attacked the store on their way back from private tuition lessons. Police said they used wooden bats to beat several migrants that were in the store, which is used as a hangout by members of the local Pakistani community.

One victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses said the assailants shouted racist slogans but authorities have not established if they are members of any far-right organizations.
