Pharmacists vow unprecedented action over move for liberalization
The country’s pharmacists on Tuesday intensified their protests against the government’s plans to liberalize the market for nonprescription drugs, allowing supermarkets to stock the medicines, threatening action “the likes of which has never been seen.”
The head of the Panhellenic Pharmacists’ Association, Kyriakos Theodosiadis, accused Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis of having an “inexplicable and dangerous” fixation with the planned reform. He did not say what form protests would take.
The head of the National Organization for Medicines, Dimitris Lintzeris, said nonprescription drugs were medicines and should only be sold by pharmacists for safety reasons.
