Panic sales on bourse as multiple problems are emerging
The latter half of trading on the Greek bourse yesterday was marked by panic selling fueled by the negative climate in international markets and various domestic problems emerging in industrial energy costs and in funding for fish farms.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,183.99 points, shedding 3.21 percent from Thursday’s 1,222.88 points. On a weekly basis it fell by 6.66 percent. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted by 3.40 percent to 390.08 points.
OPAP was the only blue chip to show gains, adding 1.12 percent. Intralot declined by 7.08 percent and Piraeus Bank dropped 6.59 percent.
In total 39 stocks went up, 101 dipped and 19 stayed put.
Turnover amounted to 82.3 million euros, up from Thursday’s 79.8 million.
