PAO and OFI close in on Cup semis, but Reds are held

Panathinaikos and OFI obtained first-leg advantages over their opponents in the quarterfinals of the Greek Cup played on Wednesday, while Atromitos held Olympiakos to a 0-0 draw at Piraeus.

This was the second time this year Olympiakos and Atromitos have met, and just like in the league game at Peristeri they finished goalless, although Olympiakos had a Javier Saviola goal that seemed wrongly disallowed as offside.

Panathinaikos defeated second division leader Olympiakos Volou 4-0 in Athens, with all goals coming in the second half from Abdul Ajagun, Emir Bajrami, Marcus Berg and Nikos Karelis. This was the fifth consecutive victory for the Greens in league and cup.

OFI defeated Panionios 2-0 on Crete with its goals also coming in the second half, courtesy of Thanasis Papazoglou and Zeljko Kalajdzic from the penalty spot. There are fears, however, that OFI midfielder Andreas Lambropoulos has suffered a torn cruciate ligament.

The last first-leg game will take place on Thursday in Thessaloniki as PAOK entertains Apollon Smyrnis.
