Buses in suburbs being attacked by stone throwers
Attacks on public buses by stone-throwing youths are becoming increasingly frequent, particularly in the run-down northern and western suburbs of Athens, according to staff at the state-run company that manages Attica’s buses and trolley buses, OSY.
The attacks have not resulted in any injuries, yet, but have damaged vehicles. The latest assault occurred late on Monday and targeted a bus serving the 723 route in Ano Liosia, according to bus workers who said a group of Roma youths pelted the vehicle with stones. Shots have been fired on rare occasions too, according to bus workers who said most buses targeted were serving routes in Menidi, Ano Perama, Elefsina, Zofria and Ano Liosia.
