Greek gov’t to take ‘political’ action after third day of Turkish violations

After a third day of Turkish violations of Greek air space in the Aegean, Defense Minister Panos Kammenos indicated that Athens was taking action at the international political level.

“All the violations of our national air space have been reported in complaints to NATO and the European Union and at the military level,” Kammenos told Real FM.

“Now initiatives are being taken at the political level,” he said, noting that “high-level US officials” have been briefed.

Kammenos’s comments came shortly after Turkish fighter jets violated Greek air space for the third time in as many days.

Shortly after 8.30 a.m., two Turkish F-16s entered the Athens Flight Information Region between Lesvos and Chios and flew over the islet of Oinousses.

In both cases, the Turkish jets were chased off by Greek aircraft.
