Ministry aims to cut red tape for citizens, businesses

The Administrative Reform Ministry sent a circular on Wednesday to all Greek state organizations as part of an initiative aimed at slashing through the red tape that continues to hamper the efforts of Greek citizens and businesses to get things done.

The ministry has asked the organizations to list all the documents they demand for various services.

Procedures deemed to be excessively time-consuming will be abolished or replaced by simpler actions. For instance, it will be possible to use simple personal declarations instead of certain documents currently required, sources indicated.

As for businesses, the aim of the ministry’s initiative is to abolish the lengthy process of applying for an operating license and replace it with a simple notification of the establishment of a company. Subsequent inspections by state officials will determine whether the newly formed businesses conform to legal requirements. If not, penalties will be imposed.
