Another endangered turtle fatally injured

A passerby looks at a fatally injured loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) on Karathonas Beach near Nafplio, in the northern Peloponnese, on Saturday. The turtle washed up on the beach earlier in the day with multiple injuries across its body, possibly from a boat propellor, in one of several similar incidents reported in the area over the past few weeks. Earlier this month, the European Court of Justice found Greece guilty of failing to protect the nesting grounds of this endangered species in Kyparissia Bay, on the opposite coast of the Peloponnese peninsula.
