Greek PM Alexis Tsipras congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his victory over the phone Wednesday, Greek government sources said.
According to the sources, Tsipras also used the opportunity to highlight the close ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and stressed Greece’s pivotal role in maintaining peace and security in the broader region, especially at a time of increasing destabilization.
The Greek PM also noted the major efforts made by the Greek people during the ongoing financial and refugee crises.
The importance of reinforcing strategic cooperation in various sectors, in the wake of the recent visit by outgoing President Barack Obama to Athens, was also raised in the discussion.
