The head of Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office, Lambros Tsogas, Thursday ordered an urgent preliminary investigation into the incident that left a 24-year-old PAOK supporter clinically dead.
The soccer fan was hit by a car in the northern port city as he attempted to escape clashes with hooligans following PAOK’s Greek Cup semifinal victory over Panathinaikos last Thursday.
Tsogas has asked for those involved to be identified and for authorities to establish what kind of offense was committed. Three other people were injured in the clashes.
The 24-year-old, a Cypriot student, apparently tried to escape the alleged assailants by running across Aghiou Dimitriou Street, when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle.
