The CEO of Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) on Monday said that every possible scenario is being examined in an ongoing probe into the deadly derailment of an intercity train traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki on Saturday night.

The train went off the rails near the village of Andendro, some 37 kilometers from Thessaloniki, causing one carriage to crash into a house and others to topple over. At least three people were reportedly killed and around 10 injured from the estimated 100 passengers on board.

“There are many different possibilities on the table,” OSE CEO Constantinos Petrakis told Skai TV on Monday morning as to the likely causes of the accident.

“We will be analyzing the situation,” he added, saying that it is possible the derailment was caused by a confluence of events.

A preliminary report into the causes of the crash is expected by Friday, though sources have indicated that it is possible the train ran into some kind of obstacle, such as rocks on the track, or experienced a malfunction.
