Diplomats express support for Athens Pride
The Canadian Embassy in Athens on Wednesday expressed its support for this year’s Athens Pride, which is scheduled to take place in Syntagma Square on Saturday.
Diplomats from the embassies of Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the USA and Venezuela will again be expressing their support for the Athens Pride festival and parade, the Canadian Embassy said.
The theme of this year’s Athens Pride – “It’s Education” – highlights the major impediments to societal acceptance and understanding faced by LGBTQI people in Greece, the embassy said, adding that “Pride events serve to reaffirm the equality and dignity of all people.”
