Lesvos rocked by powerful quake

Damage in Plomari village after a strong earthquake struck Lesvos island on Monday.

The eastern Aegean island of Lesvos was rocked by a 6.1 quake on the Richer Scale on Monday.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the quake occurred at 3.28 p.m in the sea, 37 kilometers southwest of the island at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Another tremor of 4.6 occurred at 3.35 p.m. while another measuring 3.6 took place at 3.47 p.m.

According to initial media reports, old and new houses in the village of Plomari were damaged due to the quake, while a landslide blocked off its main road. A  church bell tower was also damaged.
