A 50-year-old inmate who failed to return from a furlough more than two years ago was arrested on Wednesday in Spata, east of Athens, police said.
Police said the fugitive, Antonis Karamolengos, had been serving a life sentence for killing two police officers outside the headquarters of the capital’s police in 1990, before violating furlough in March 2015
A fresh arrest warrant was issued for Karamolengos in March last year for the attempted murder of a man shot inside a car near the ISAP electric railway railway station at Neo Iraklio in northern Athens.
He is expected to appear before a prosecutor later in the day.
The inmate had also violated his furlough in 2011 but was later arrested by police and sent back to prison.
Reports said police also arrested a 46-year-old woman in connection with the 2016 shooting incident.
No more details were immediately available.
