Warning shot?

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is not the type of politician who reduces himself to social niceties.

His reference on Tuesday in Brussels to Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos as Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s “extreme-right coalition partner” shows that the bloc’s executive chief can fire warning shots when he wants to.

Perhaps Athens has upset EU officials with its behavior, or maybe it made promises it is finding hard to keep. Whatever the case, the reasons behind Juncker’s decision to refer to Kammenos are bound to emerge eventually.
