General secretary jobs come under scrutiny of creditors
Greece’s international creditors have tasked a committee of experts to examine whether the candidates being put forward by the leftist-led government to serve as general secretaries at the country’s ministries are qualified for the job amid reservations regarding the process.
The report will have to be submitted by the end of June – the government’s deadline for filling 69 positions as part of lender-mandated reforms to overhaul the civil service – and will outline the parameters of each post and the qualifications required to fill it, as well as examining whether the proper procedures were followed in advertising for candidates.
Kathimerini understands that there are around 10 advertisements for such posts that have caused concern among creditors, particularly following accusations from the opposition in Greece that the government was using the process to accommodate cronies.
