Prime Minister Zoran Zaev of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) has said he is “very sure” his country will vote for a name change in a referendum later this year.

“Polls show that more than 75 percent of our citizens are in favor of NATO and European Union [membership],” Zaev told the BBC in an interview.

“More than 70 percent of our citizens believe that this question should have been solved or that now is a good moment [to solve it] and more than 75 percent will vote in the referendum,” he added.

A referendum on the name accord, under which FYROM will be renamed Republic of North Macedonia, is expected to take place in September or in October.
