EYP issues statement on ISIS suspect

TAGS: Terrorism

The National Intelligence Service (EYP) was the first agency to brief its international counterparts about Farhoud Hassan, the Syrian national who was detained last week by Hungarian authorities on suspicion of being an active member of the Islamic State, EYP said in a statement on Friday.

EYP said that Hassan first arrived in Greece in February 2016 and was granted asylum in October of the following year, adding that it informed other agencies about him in August of last year.

Hassan was arrested in Budapest last December and given a suspended sentence for human trafficking.

EYP said that as of August 2018, there was no indication that Hassan was involved in terrorist activities while it never received any intelligence linking the man with terrorist networks.
