Jeremy Irons to narrate Dickens at the Megaron

British actor set to recite ‘A Christmas Carol’ in December

British actor Jeremy Irons is expected in Athens in December to interpret Charles Dickens’s celebrated, popular Yuletide tale “A Christmas Carol.”

The Oscar-winning actor is scheduled to appear at the Athens Concert Hall on December 15 and 16, two evenings during which he will transmit the spirit of Dickens in the runup to the holiday season.

“A Christmas Carol” is one of those stories that has been presented in every conceivable way, ranging from traditional theater productions to television and cinema adaptations featuring Scrooge McDuck and the Muppets, among others. A new version destined for the big screen featuring the voice of Jim Carrey will open in local theaters on Christmas Eve.

Just over a week earlier, Irons and his dulcet voice will tell the classic story of antisocial behavior, guilt and redemption. A gifted narrator, Irons will find himself alone on the Athens Concert Hall stage, accompanied by a few musicians who will be interpreting music and Christmas carols from around the world.

Entertaining as well as horrifying, “A Christmas Carol” tells the story of lead character Ebenezer Scrooge, a nasty misanthropic miser who receives the unwelcome visit of various ghosts.

Haunted by the spirits’ presence, Scrooge eventually repents his actions as well his stinginess and mean character.
