The Panhellenic Union of Nursing Staff stages a sit-in protest...

THANSASIS OUZOUNIS/ANA

The Panhellenic Union of Nursing Staff (PASONOP) stages a sit-in protest during a 24-hour strike in Thessaloniki yesterday, coinciding with the inauguration of the country’s largest trade fair in the northern Greek city. PASONOP is calling on the government to boost the number of nurses at state hospitals, arguing that only 30,000 are employed in the country. This translates into only one nurse for every 40 patients, the union says.
