Father’s suicide leap kills son

A British man tried to commit suicide late on Tuesday by jumping from his fourth-story hotel room along with his two children in Ierapetra, Crete, killing his 6-year-old son and injuring his daughter.

The 32-year-old father, who was not identified, was under police guard in Aghios Nikolaos yesterday after an argument with his wife, aged 34, had apparently prompted the suicide attempt.

Police said that the son suffered serious head and internal injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital while the 2-year-old girl suffered only minor injuries and is out of danger.

“She must have fallen on top of the others. She appears unharmed,” a source said.

The father, who suffered a broken arm and leg, has been charged with premeditated murder.
